Tuesday's HS highlights: Strasburg, NP victorious; Miller, Ady claim new coaching debut wins

Elijah Fierbaugh scored 14 points, Andrew Harvey had 13 and Dylan Walker posted 12 as Strasburg rolled to a 64-24 Inter-Valley Conference boys basketball win over Newcomerstown Tuesday night.

Strasburg improved to 2-0, while Newcomerstown dropped to 0-2.

The Tigers, who had 10 different players score, led 18-9 after the opening quarter, 31-20 at the half and outscored the Trojans 27-2 in the third quarter to take a commanding 58-22 advantage into the final frame.

Trenton Newkirk and Brandon Wilson each scored seven points to lead Newcomerstown.

New Phila 47, John Glenn 46

Carter Vandall scored 22 points and Michael Vickers added 10 as New Philadelphia opened its season with a big non-conference win at John Glenn.

The Little Muskies and Quakers went back and forth.

Avery Parmer's 18 points, including four 3s, weren't enough for the Muskies.

Vandal had seven counters in the first quarter to put the Quakers up 12-8 after one quarter.

Will Nicolozakes and Colin Campbell hit 3s in the second quarter to pull John Glenn within 20-18 at the half.

Parmer had 10 points, including two triples, and Campbell added five in the third to put the Muskies ahead 36-30 entering the fourth.

Vandall and Vickers combined for 14 points in the fourth and Colton Slaughter hit a key 3 late to help the Quakers complete the rally.

Indian Valley 62, Maysville 52

Indian Valley downed visiting Maysville in the Braves head coaching debut of Tyrone Miller.

The Braves, who were led in scoring by Lucas Hagan's 22 points, led 18-7 after the first quarter, 27-15 at halftime, and 45-32 going into the final quarter.

Cam Anderson and Tanyon McComb each added 10 points for the winners. Maysville was led by Hayden Jarret's 19 points.

The Braves will be back in action Friday night as they travel to Conotton Valley for an IVC crossover match-up.

Indian Valley won the JV game 39-34.

Conotton Valley 65, Beallsville 44

Conotton Valley jumped out to a 31-11 halftime lead en route to a season-opening win over visiting Beallsville in the Rockets head coaching debut of Jeremy Ady.

Tusky Valley 51, Akron East 47

Logan Stotzer fired in a personal-best 28 points and Cody Robinson added 12 as host Tusky Valley picked up a big non-conference win over visiting Akron East.

The Trojans, who outscored the Dragons 31-18 in the second half, improved to 2-0.

Silas Miller put in nine points and Dawson Williams had the other two points for the winners.

Akron East led 13-12 after one quarter and 29-20 at the half, but Tusky Valley had a big third quarter and outscored the Dragons 17-6 to take a 37-35 lead into the fourth quarter.

Eric Holley led East (1-2) with 13 points, while Tristan Anderson followed with seven.

Akron East won the JV contest 51-35.

Hiland 74, Northwestern 60

Sammy Detweiler scored 23 points and Dylan Weaver added 12 as Hiland recorded a non-conference win over visiting Northwestern at the Reese Community Center.

Hiland (1-1) led 18-11 after one quarter, 38-26 at the half and 63-46 going to the fourth quarter.

Grant Miller just missed double figures for the Hawks with nine.

Alex Ciolek led Northwestern with 19 points and Brett Alberts added 18.

Canton Central Catholic 68, Carrollton 46

Canton Central Catholic recorded a non-conference win over Carrollton.

Harrison Central 59, Indian Creek 58

Harrison Central opened its season with a big road win at Indian Creek after trailing by 15 points in the first half.

Indian Creek led 19-11 after one quarter and 32-24 at the half, but the Huskies roared back to take a 44-42 lead into the final frame.

Harrison Central won the JV contest 40-22.

Girls basketball

West Holmes 49, Mount Vernon 39

Kinsey Patterson led the way with 25 points as West Holmes picked up its first Ohio Cardinal Conference win of the season.

Patterson had six 3-pointers on the night. She also grabbed four steals for the Knights' defense.

West Holmes led 11-6 after one quarter, 28-23 at the half and 39-36 going to the final frame where the Knights pulled away for the win.

Melanie Fair had seven points and was huge on the glass with 11 rebounds for the winners, while Claire Reynolds also scored 7 for the Knights.

Bowling

Dover vs. Garaway

Dover and Garaway split at Boulevard Lanes.

The Garaway boys won 2,221-1,862 as Clayton Burky rolled a 413 series (181-232) and Caleb Meek followed with a 367 (198-169).

Jacob Shanklin paced Dover with a 355 (190-165) and Colin McGlothlin added a 353 (176-177).

The Dover girls were 1,842-1,704 winners as Kaylie Gibson fired a 362 (180-182) and Natalie Nealey rolled a 322 (127-195).

Macy Millet led Garaway with a 297 (149-148) and Savanna Miller bowled a 291 (116-175).

Sandy Valley vs. Canton Central Catholic

Sandy Valley split with host Canton Central Catholic at Strike Zone.

The Sandy Valley girls won 2,237-2,143 as Miah Delaney led the way with a 395 (215-180) and Joey Boyer was next with a 323 (151-172).

Sarah Buwala led Canton Central Catholic with a 391.

The Canton Central Catholic boys were a 2,097-1,565 winner behind Tim Seber's 338.

Andrew Hughes led Sandy Valley with a 286 (143-143) and Jacob Fiddler added a 284 (133-151).

Harrison Central vs Union Local

Harrison Central split with host Union Local at St. Clair Lanes.

The boys won 1,923-1,777, while the girls fell 1,682-1,633.
