Tucker Carlson sides with Russia over Ukraine in ongoing conflict

On Monday night, Tucker Carlson doubled down on his support of Russia over Ukraine in their ongoing conflict.

Just one week earlier, Carlson said, “Why do I care about what’s going on in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia? And I’m serious, I don’t care. And why shouldn’t I root for Russia? Which I am.”

Carlson later claimed that comment was a joke, but on Monday night said, “I should say for the record, I’m totally opposed to these sanctions and I don’t think that we should be at war with Russia, and I think we should probably take the side of Russia if we have to choose between Russia and Ukraine. That is my view.”

Carlson’s latest comment on the matter confounded some, including former ambassador to Russia, Michael McFaul.

Carlson also accused members of the media of hating the United States for pushing back against Republicans in congress who continue to propagate a Russian conspiracy theory that Ukraine meddled in the 2016 election, even though it’s been debunked by multiple intelligence agencies and the GOP-led Senate Intelligence Committee.

“Putin, for all his faults, does not hate America as much as many of these people do,” Carlson said after showing multiple clips from MSNBC. “They really dislike our country and they call other people traitors ‘cause they’re mouthing the talking points of Putin.”

And, even though the entire American intelligence community agrees that Russia meddled in the 2016 election, which included hacking the Democratic National Committee, Carlson disagreed, and offered a theory of his own.

“Russia didn’t hack our democracy,” Carlson said. “The whole thing was a talking point, a ludicrous talking point, invented by the Hillary Clinton campaign on or about Nov. 9, 2016, to explain their unexpected defeat in the last presidential election.”
