Trump says he may 'terminate' New York Times, Washington Post from White House

On Hannity Monday night, Donald Trump made a statement about prominent media outlets that under any other administration may have come as a surprise. The Trump administration has long had a combative relationship with the media, in particular the New York Times and the Washington Post, and Trump told Sean Hannity he may “terminate” the outlets from the White House altogether.

“They gave Pulitzer Prizes to people that got it wrong, OK?” Trump said. “All these people doing it for the New York Times, which is a fake newspaper, we don’t even want it in the White House anymore. We’re gonna probably terminate that and the Washington Post. They’re fake.”

This wouldn’t be an unprecedented move as last November CNN’s Jim Acosta briefly had his White House press credentials revoked following a contentious press conference. But, as Trump and Hannity lamented the lack of media coverage on the debunked yet oft-repeated conspiracy theory about the Bidens and Ukraine, Trump assured Hannity that he doesn’t see all media in the same light.

“What does it say about the media?” Hannity asked, adding, “I agree with you.” “The media’s corrupt,” Trump answered. “Not all media is. Look, I know some great people, including you, but I know some great journalists.”

And while on the subject of journalists, Trump also took a swipe at CNN’s Anderson Cooper for his performance in last week’s Democratic debate.

“I watched this crazy Anderson Cooper the other day during the debate,” Trump said, “apologize for having to ask the question to them. Apologize”

Hannity airs weeknights at 9 p.m. on Fox News Channel.
