Trojan baseball team gains split in St. Peter

Apr. 11—ST. PETER — After being shut out 8-0 in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday, the Worthington Trojans baseball team demolished host St. Peter 14-4 in the second game while opening its regular season.

In the first game, the Trojans were blanked over seven innings on a two-hitter. Danny Pavelko and Brock Burns had the only hits, both singles. Nathan Van Orman started on the mound and went just two innings. The Saints scored five runs in the second frame, helped by five walks and one hit batter.

But in the second game, the Trojans came alive with 13 hits over five innings. Tate Gaul had three hits and an RBI. Van Orman had three hits and two RBIs. Pavelko had a hit and two RBIs.

Blake Ahrenstorff was the starting pitcher, but he was pulled early due to injury. Pavelko hurled two innings and was the winning pitcher. Jake Brandner also pitched.

The Trojans had smarter at bats in the second game, said head coach Skyler Wenninger.

"I think it just took us a game to get used to being outside and playing baseball again," he said.
