The Minnesota Vikings made a classy move before Thursday’s practice. They arranged to have football players and coaches from Trey Lance’s alma mater Marshall High School bussed in to watch the joint session between the 49ers and Vikings.

Lance grew up in Marshall, Minn., which is about 145 miles east of Eagan, Minn. where the Vikings hold their training camp. The 49ers’ QB got to chat with some of the players and his former coaches after Thursday’s practice.

While Lance grew up not too far from Minneapolis where the Vikings play, the sentimentality of the semi-homecoming for the QB won’t play into head coach Kyle Shanahan’s plans on game day. He wasn’t planning on Lance playing in the second preseason game, and that remains the case even if the QB has family and friends in the building Saturday night.

“Now that you reminded me that he is, maybe I’ll think about it,” Shanahan joked during Wednesday’s press conference. “But no, not at all. Sorry.”
