There was plenty of blame to go around following the Chiefs’ 20-17 loss to the Colts on Sunday in Indianapolis.

The special teams had trouble in multiple areas (muffed punt, missed extra point, missed field goal, awful fake field goal), the Chiefs averaged just 2.5 yards per rush, Chris Jones was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct which prolonged the Colts’ winning drive, and tight end Travis Kelce dropped a pass in the end zone.

That drop from Kelce came at a terrible time.

With less than nine minutes to play and the Chiefs leading 17-13, Kansas City had the ball at the Colts 16-yard line. It was second and 7, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw a pass to Kelce in the end zone.

The throw was a little behind Kelce, who dropped what would have been a touchdown to give the Chiefs a two-score lead. Instead, the Chiefs’ drive stalled when Mahomes’ third-down pass was incomplete. Matt Ammendola then missed a 34-yard field goal, and the Colts drove for the game-winning touchdown.

After the game, Kelce wrote a message to Chiefs fans.

“KC…. You deserve better out of me. Should have put the game away when I had the chance,” Kelce wrote. “Hats off to the colts, they got us… back to work asap!!!”

Safety Juan Thornhill also shared a postgame message for Chiefs fans: “One game doesn’t define us… If you’re going to ride with us then ride with us. leave the rest behind. On to the next #ChiefsKingdom”
