Traveling home today? Expect these traffic and weather events in NC
It’s the Sunday after Thanksgiving, a.k.a. the biggest travel day of the year. If you haven’t already left your holiday destination to get back home, we have some traffic and weather updates for you.
Here’s what to know about driving in North Carolina on Sunday, Nov. 27:

As of 11 a.m. Sunday, DriveNC had a full-state alert for “heavy congestion due to holiday travel.”

Sunday after Thanksgiving NC weather
Expect a rainy Sunday with isolated chances of storms and tornadoes. But Nick Luchetti, meteorologist at Raleigh’s National Weather Service, doesn’t think that’s cause to stay off the road.
Flash flooding is not expected, though this weather can bring about reduced visibility.
“The probability is low, but there is somewhat of a chance,” Luchetti said. “That’ll mostly be east and south of Raleigh later this afternoon, between 1 and 4 p.m.
“The chance of this hitting exactly where you’re driving is slim, but you can get heavier rain with these weather events that can reduce visibility and make it more difficult to drive.”
There might be heavier downpours along I-95 in that time frame, he added. If you’re driving in this weather, here’s what you should do:
First and foremost, slow down.
Turn on your fog lights.
Leave extra space between your vehicle and the one in front of you.
Pull off the road and wait for the heavy rain to pass, if that makes you feel more safe.
