Trash talk between Penny Hardaway, Jaylen Forbes boils over in Memphis-Tulane game
The officiating crew for Saturday's Memphis basketball game against Tulane at FedExForum briefly halted play amid a heated exchange between coach Penny Hardaway and Tulane guard Jaylen Forbes.
The Green Wave had possession in front of the Tigers' bench with 17:32 on the clock in the first half when referee Garrick Shannon blew his whistle to try to put a pin in the ongoing trash talk between Hardaway and Forbes. It is unclear who initiated the back-and-forth.
Hardaway, at one point, instructed Memphis guard Kendric Davis to "bust his (butt)." Later, Forbes shouted over to Green Wave coach Ron Hunter, "tell Penny to shut the (expletive) up."

Following the Green Wave's 90-89 overtime win, Hardaway summed things up by describing Forbes as a confident player.
"Just a fine basketball player just believing in himself," he said. "I'm trying to pump up (Davis) to go around him. Basically, he was like, 'Nah, he ain't going around me.' So, basically, he was jawing back at me about that he wasn't going to allow KD to beat him off the dribble."
