Trail's Collingwood exit reopens, but others run late

Sep. 26—The Collingwood Boulevard exit ramp from the inbound Anthony Wayne Trail opened Friday afternoon. Because of the work-zone crossover for traffic headed downtown, though, motorists must make their lane choice for the exit before passing City Park Avenue.

The ramp has a 25-mph advisory speed, but some of the drivers I watched after observing the ramp had opened were easily driving twice that.

It opened about a week ahead of schedule; the Ohio Department of Transportation's latest estimate for the Wales entrance to northbound I-75 is sometime this week, or about two weeks late. You win one, you lose one.

Well, maybe lose two. The northbound side of the South Avenue interchange also is due to reopen by the end of this week, but based on its status Saturday — concrete ramp sections built, but asphalt paving and related work yet to start — there's no way that's going to happen on time, either. Last week's heavy rain surely didn't help.

It's plausible that the wet weather has also set back the reopening of U.S. 6 in far northwestern Henry County, but I haven't been out there lately to see how that work is actually progressing, and the ODOT construction report didn't indicate any delay.

ODOT's weekly update did include a new schedule for ramp repairs at I-75's interchange with the Ohio Turnpike.

All of the listed work is on the southbound side. The entrance ramp from the turnpike is scheduled for closing Monday and Tuesday; the collector-lane bridge over the turnpike is scheduled for closing Tuesday and Wednesday, and the exit to the turnpike is scheduled for closing Thursday and Friday, all from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

The collector lane closing will block access from southbound I-75 to State Rt. 795 on those days. The best option to get to Route 795 will be to exit I-75 at Buck Road, turn right, and go south on Lime City Road.

Microsurfacing that was supposed to require lane closings on I-280 in Oregon between the Navarre and Woodville interchanges and on the I-475 mainline at the U.S. 23 split in Sylvania Township, meanwhile, has been postponed until spring.

I-75: Reduced to two lanes each way between Buck Road in Rossford and Dorr Street in Toledo for reconstruction and widening. All four ramps at the Anthony Wayne Trail (State Rt. 25) interchange are closed, as are the northbound ramps at South Avenue and the northbound entrance at Wales. Ramp detours, some quite long, are posted and additional closings are possible at night and on weekends. The Trail is reduced to one lane inbound between City Park Avenue and I-75 and outbound between Lafayette Street and City Park.

I-75: Paving resumes Tuesday between I-280 and the Michigan border on the southbound side, with lanes closed at night from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

I-280: Reduced to two lanes each way, with no shoulders, across the Veterans' Glass City Skyway for deck resurfacing until later this year. A second lane may be closed at night. All southbound ramps between the Manhattan entrance and Front exit are closed nightly, as are the northbound ramps at Front and the Greenbelt exit.

I-475: Nighttime multiple-lane closings between I-75 and Douglas Road for bridge deck sealing, and single-lane closings at Secor Road. Work begins at 9 p.m. and ends by 6 a.m. on weekday mornings and 9 a.m. on weekend mornings.

I-475/U.S. 23: Nighttime (8 p.m. to 6 a.m.) lane closings possible between Holland-Sylvania and Central, at the Ottawa River east of Holland-Sylvania, and on U.S. 23 over Sylvania Avenue for bridge deck sealing. The ramp from westbound I-475 to northbound U.S. 23 will be closed Friday and Saturday nights from 9 p.m. until 9 a.m. the next day.

U.S. 23 (Ohio): Shoulders closed and lane closings possible during noise wall installation between I-475 and Monroe Street in Sylvania.

U.S. 24 (Detroit Ave.): Lane closings on Detroit, Cherry, and Berdan near their intersection for modification of the roundabout.

State Rt. 248 (Dorr): A moving work zone for utility work requires varying lane closings between Parkside Boulevard and Secor Road, Tuesday through Friday.

Summit Street: Lane closings between 101st and 130th in Point Place for resurfacing.

Ohio Turnpike: One lane each way west of the Bryan interchange for reconstruction. Long delays are possible, especially Fridays and Sundays. Use State Rt. 15/U.S. 20A and U.S. 20 instead. The Indiana Toll Road also has several long, slow work zones between I-69 and Elkhart.

I-75 (Mich.): Ramps are closed at Exit 11 (LaPlaisance Road) during bridge and interchange reconstruction. Mainline lane closings are possible.

I-275 (Mich.): Two of three lanes closed for repair in both directions between Carleton and I-94, affecting the main route between Toledo and Detroit Metropolitan-Wayne County Airport. Consider I-75 to U.S. 24 to Eureka or Northline as an airport alternative.

U.S. 6: Closed for reconstruction between Ridgeville Corners and the Henry-Williams county line through Thursday. Detour via State Rts. 34 and 191 or State Rt. 66 South and U.S. 24. Closed for a bridge replacement between Sandusky County Road 232 and Riley Township Road 240, east of the Ohio Turnpike, until early October. Detour via U.S. 20 and State Rts. 412 and 510.

U.S. 23: Closed between Dundee and Milan, Mich., for emergency overpass work north of the Cone Road interchange. A detour has been established using M-50 and Ann Arbor, Ostrander, and Plank roads northbound and Plank, Ostrander, Ann Arbor, and Cone roads southbound. Avoid this route if at all possible. For Jackson, Lansing, and other points to the west and northwest, use U.S. 223 to U.S. 127. I-75 to I-275 to I-94 is another alternative but has construction on I-275 (see above).

U.S. 24: Lane closings for resurfacing between State Rt. 66 and Baltimore Street west of Defiance.

U.S. 127: Closed north of West Unity, Ohio for culvert repair this week. Detour via U.S. 20A, State Rt. 66, and U.S. 20.

U.S. 224: Flag zones between the east side of Findlay and the Hancock/Seneca county line for resurfacing.
