Thailand’s Banjong Pisanthanakun and South Korea’s Na Hong-jin have teamed up to create the film “The Medium,” a spooky new entry to the horror genre.
About the film: “The Medium” revolves around a film crew tagging along with a Thai shaman to document the passing of the mystic lineage between generations, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The movie premiered on July 11 at the 25th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, where it won the “Best Film” award.
The film was officially released in South Korea on July 14, where it became the 6th highest-grossing Korean film of 2021.
While its U.S. release date has not been announced, international rights for the film have reportedly been secured by indie sales firm Finecut, reported Variety.
Match made in horror heaven: Pisanthanakun is best known for his 2004 debut “Shutter,” while Na is renowned for his 2008 thriller “The Chaser.”
Over the years, Pisanthanakun has made films in a variety of genres, including the thriller “Alone” (2007), the romantic comedy “Hello Stranger” (2010), top-grossing comedy horror “Pee Mak” (2013) and the drama “One Day” (2016).
Meanwhile, Na has focused mainly on writing and directing thrillers such as “The Yellow Sea” (2010) and “The Wailing” (2016).
For “The Medium,” Pisanthanakun took on directorial duties while Na co-produced and co-wrote the film.
