TPD urging safety for Halloween trick-or-treaters

Oct. 26—THOMASVILLE — As Halloween night approaches, Thomasville Police Department is promoting Halloween safety tips.

Throughout the spooky holiday, officers will be out patrolling and passing out special treats to anyone who can tell them one of the following Halloween safety tips:

—Make sure masks have eye holes that are easy to see through

—Trick or treat with a parent or guardian

—Don't go inside stranger's houses

—Inspect candy before eating it

—Especially at night, wear visible items such as glow sticks or reflective material.

—Carry a flashlight and stay in well-lit areas

—Watch out for cars and stay on the sidewalks

—Don't run into the street

—Trick or treat in large groups to ensure safety

—Make sure costumes fit properly to avoid accidents such as trips or falls.

TPD spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Parker noted that the most important tip is for parents to inspect any candy their child receives on Halloween.

"We want to put these tips out every year because we want kids to be safe and to have a good time," she said. "If we can do things like take preventive measures, we can make sure they have a safe and happy Halloween."
