The Only Way is Essex star James ‘Arg’ Argent fears for his life after discovering that he’s the heaviest he’s ever been.

The reality star is taking part in Channel 4’s Sink or Swim later this month, where he’ll be swimming the English Channel with other celebrities for Stand Up 2 Cancer.

But after having a series of health checks before taking on the challenge, he now fears that he could die if he doesn’t lose weight.

Speaking to The Sun, he said: “I've had check-ups. My heart's OK, I have no signs of diabetes and my cholesterol is not too high.

“But I was weighed and I was the biggest I'd ever been — around 24 stone. I could become ill or die. The swim is an opportunity to sort my life out.”

Argent went on to say that, while he’s already lost some weight from the training, he still needs to lose about “eight more stone”.

'I've got a long way to go even after I swim the Channel. But it's just a perfect way to kick-start my healthy weight loss,” he said.

Earlier this month, the TOWIE star took to Instagram to share an image of himself with Love Island’s Wes Nelson, who is also taking part in the challenge.

Argent captioned the photo: “I’ve never worked this hard or been so committed to anything in my life! @wes.nelson has been so supportive & has motivated me.”

Sharing the same image, Nelson wrote: “Honestly so proud of @real_arg the weight is falling off 4 weeks out from our big swim across the Channel for Stand Up 2 Cancer! Let’s get it.”

Argent will be joined on Sink or Swim by fellow TOWIE star Georgia Kousoulou, Coronation Street’s Sair Khan and ex-Blue Peter presenter Diane Louise Jordan. The show will also welcome Olympic gold medallists Linford Christie, Tessa Sanderson and Greg Rutherford, none of which won their medals for swimming.
