Virginia State Police say a tow-truck driver from Hopewell was killed early Tuesday morning in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 17 in Gloucester County..

Marquse Tashawn Haskins, 28, died after he was ejected from the flatbed truck, VSP Sgt. Michelle Anaya said in an email. A male passenger in the truck was taken to Riverside Walter Reed Hospital with minor injuries.

The wreck happened around 12:50 a.m. Tuesday on Route 17, also called the George Washington Memorial Highway, just south of the town of Gloucester. Anaya said the truck was towing a Chrysler minivan southbound when it ran off the road into the median and hit a traffic-signal pole.

The truck was registered to Born to Grind Roadside Towing in Prince George County.

The driver was not wearing his seat belt, Anaya said.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing. Anaya said neither speed nor alcohol were factors.
