Raptors set NBA record for most consecutive home wins against own division
Has the Atlantic Division been one of the NBA’s weakest for the last half-decade or so? No doubt.
Hell, do people even look at the league’s standings by division instead of by conference? Nope.
Nonetheless, the fact that the Toronto Raptors have dominated divisional opponents at home over the past four years can’t be denied. Now that Wednesday night’s 126-98 victory over the New York Knicks is under their belt, the Raptors set a new NBA record with 33 consecutive home victories.
The Golden State Warriors (October 2013 - April 2017) and Utah Jazz (November 1996 - April 1999) previously shared the mark with stretches of 32 straight wins against teams within their respective divisions.
On top of rewriting basketball’s record books, Toronto improved to 8-0 at Scotiabank Arena this season. That’s the franchise’s best start to a season at home, according to TSN’s Josh Lewenberg.
Pascal Siakam led all scorers with 31 points on Wednesday while both OG Anunoby and Chris Boucher finished with identical double-doubles of 13 points and 12 rebounds. In total, seven Raptors scored at least 12 points in the win.
Julius Randle had a team-high 19 points for New York in the loss.
Toronto’s last loss against an Atlantic opponent came on Nov. 10, 2015, per Lewenberg. Who did they play in the two-point loss, you may ask?
The Knicks.
The only member of the Raptors that played in that game and Wednesday’s is Norm Powell, who was on the floor for a total of 95 seconds in the 2015 clash.
Toronto’s most recent triumph extended their current winning streak to five games and boosted their record to 13-4 this season. New York fell to 4-14.
