Maple Leafs' Andersen returns from injury, Hutchinson placed on waivers

Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Frederik Andersen said he’s ready to play again after suffering a neck injury against the Florida Panthers on Feb. 3.

During Andersen’s absence, Toronto acquired Jack Campbell in a trade with the Los Angeles Kings. Campbell has posted a 2-0-1 record during his stint with the Maple Leafs, posting a .918 save percentage during this span.

Andersen is immeasurably important to the Maple Leafs’ playoff bid and while he hasn’t been at his best this season, posting a .910 save percentage, his unprecedented volume of starts since joining the team has made him arguably the team’s most valuable player after Auston Matthews.

The veteran goaltender is sitting with a 24-9-6 record in 2019-20.

Michael Hutchinson was placed on waivers Thursday, according to TSN’s Pierre LeBrun. Hutchinson posted an abysmal 4-9-1 record with a .886 save percentage, a 3.66 goals against average and was rendered expendable the moment the Leafs acquired Campbell, with Andersen slated to resume his role as the No. 1 goalie.
