The top five six-man teams in the Texas Panhandle: Week Six

Each week, the Amarillo Globe-News sports staff provides its assessment of the top-5 power rankings of coverage area Six-Man teams based on results from the week prior.

Below is how things stand after the sixth week of action.

1. HAPPY

The Cowboys were off this past week, but did you really think they were going anywhere? They lost to the defending state champs in the first game of the season and have crushed everyone else since then. Happy is our No. 1 until it isn't.

2. FOLLETT

Man, what a game! Follett edged out one of the top six-man teams in the state with a 62-60 win over Paducah last Friday. The lone loss on Follett's record came against Happy, and there's no shame in that.

3. MCLEAN

McLean has made our top five for the first time this season. That's what happens when you remain undefeated this long. We simply couldn't ignore what they've accomplished this season in terms of result and quality of opponent.

4. NAZARETH

The Swifts suffered their first loss of the season as Whitharral beat them Friday, 54-24. Still, Whitharral is an outstanding team and the Swifts have cruised to victory otherwise. We'll keep them here for now.

5. MIAMI

Miami edged out a talented Groom team 38-36 thanks in large part to the efforts of Haiden Thompson. Four touchdowns on offense, 283 rushing yards, 20 tackles on defense to go with four pass breakups? If the season ended today, Thompson is the MVP of the Panhandle without question.
