Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady is taking a leave of absence from the team to deal with a personal matter, and won’t return until after the team’s second preseason game.

Brady’s time away from the team was planned ahead of time, long before training camp, Bucs head coach Todd Bowles told the media after Thursday’s joint practice with the Miami Dolphins, from which Brady had been excused.

Between excused absences and veteran off days, Brady had missed three of Tampa Bay’s last six practices, and now will be away from the team for the next couple of weeks.

Bowles had previously said Brady wouldn’t play in Saturday’s preseason opener against the Dolphins, and he was unlikely to play in their second exhibition game against the Tennessee Titans.
