Tom Brady believes outsiders tried to divide him and Bill Belichick
Tom Brady has already established himself as the greatest player of all time, but he isn’t looking to upstage Bill Belichick in the overall success for the New England Patriots.
Pitting the former quarterback and head coach duo against one another has been a talking point even before Brady took his talents to Tampa Bay to join the Buccaneers.
Who was more responsible for the Patriots success: Brady or Belichick? That oft-asked question sounds like a broken record at this point.
“From my standpoint, I think it’s always such a stupid conversation to say, ‘Brady vs. Belichick,’ because, in my mind, that’s not what partnerships are about. Coach couldn’t play quarterback, and I couldn’t coach,” Brady said on the “Let’s Go” podcast. “…In my view, people were always trying to pull us apart, and I don’t think we ever really felt that with each other.
“We were never trying to pull each other apart. We actually were always trying to go in the same direction. I think when we were in New England for 20 years together, you know, they get tired of writing the same story. So once they write all the nice things and championships and this and then they just start going, ‘Well, this works, let’s start trying to divide them.’ I never really appreciated those ways that people would try to do that.”
The Patriots were fortunate enough to find lightning in a bottle with the greatest quarterback and coach ending up on the same team together.
Brady couldn’t have won seven Super Bowls without Belichick, and Belichick wouldn’t have won six without Brady. The two are forever tied at the hip for their historic success with both deserving an equal share of the credit for the greatest NFL dynasty of all time.
