TITANIC MAT RUN: Oklahoma Wesleyan University wrestler Welden finishes 2nd at invite

Oklahoma Wesleyan University wrestler Jaden Welden unleashed a wave of domination his first two matches and rolled into second place in the 165-pound division of the 2022 CBC Invite (Ark.).

Six OKWU grapplers entered the competition. Welden and Chad Sakamoto both placed in the top four of their divisions.

Sakamoto earned fourth at 149 pounds.

He started off by pinning his first opponent in 1:20 to advance to the semifinal, where he lost, 9-1.

Sakamoto then moved into the consolation semifinal and rang up a victory by technical fall (17-1).

In the third place match, Sakamoto suffered a rugged loss by decision,4-2.

Welden started his championship quest by overwhelming his quarterfinal opponent, 17-4.

Facing a Lyon (Ark.) College foe in the semifinal, Welden steamrolled to a win by fall (2:51) to earn a spot in the championship final.

But, his opponent got the upper hand and beat him, 9-1.

Andrew Mahoney (157), Braven Bowman (141), Crease Hamblin (141) and Jake Stanton (125) also represented OKWU.
