Times Charities: Single grandmother on verge of eviction helped

After unexpectedly receiving custody of two grandchildren last year, a single grandmother needed help making ends meet.

She turned to Times Charities partner organization, The Salvation Army, for rent assistance.

She brought with her a letter saying she would be evicted in three days and said she would lose everything if she could not get some help.

The Salvation Army spoke with the woman’s landlord and was able to work out an agreement in which the woman and grandchildren would be able to stay in their home if the landlord received some payment.

The Salvation Army was able to pay the woman’s past-due rent and help the family keep their home.
