Time to vote for Marion County High School Athlete Of The Week

District tournaments are turning Marion County teams efforts to a new level. We have five new nominees competing for athlete of the week.

Three Forest athletes stepped up their play. Megan Griggs earned a district championship in weightlifting, X'Zavion McCoy played well against high-level competition, and Janellie Castillo helped the Wildcats make a trip to the district title game.

You can vote for your favorite athlete once per hour. Please share the poll on social media so friends and family can get in on the action. Voting will close Thursday at 11:59 p.m.

Megan Griggs, Forest

Stat: Won Olympic and Traditional district weightlifting titles

Griggs swept district titles in both categories. In the Olympic group, she lifting a combined 180 pounds. In the Traditional discipline, she lifted 205 pounds.

Janellie Castillo, Forest

Stat: 1 goal, 1 assist

Castillo has scored or assisted in every game during Forest's run to the district girls soccer championship.

Aaliyah Grant, Belleview

Stats: 17 PPG, 15.3 RPG, 1 APG in 3 games

Grant broke a long standing double-double title at Belleview. She averaged big numbers in scoring and rebounding for her 15th double-double of the season.

Mileyka Rodriguez Mercado, West Port

Stats: 16.5 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 4.5 APG, 4.5 SPG in 2 games

Mercado led the Wolf Pack to a regular season-ending win streak. She scored a season-high 25 points in the last game of the season.

X'Zavion McCoy, Forest

Stats: 19.5 PPG, 7 RPG, 7 APG, 1.5 SPG in 2 games

Forest played two four-star prospects during the week and came out with a perfect record. His ability to push the pace and get everyone involved shaped a three-game winning streak.
