Gregg Berhalter's USA are through to the last 16 at the World Cup having narrowly secured second place in Group B following a 1-1 draw with Wales, a 0-0 draw against England and a 1-0 win over Iran.

The USA, who missed out on the tournament in 2018, will now need to beat Louis van Gaal's Netherlands if they hope to reach the quarter finals in Qatar.

Here is what you can expect from the Netherlands vs USA battle – and how to watch all the action on the day.

When is the USA vs Netherlands game?

The game between the Netherlands and the USA is set to take place at 3pm UK time (6pm in Qatar, 10am ET, 9am CT and 7am PT) on Saturday, December 3.

If a winner is not found after 90 minutes, the game will go into 30 minutes of extra time. If there is still a stalemate, a penalty shootout will then decide who goes through to the next round.

Where will it take place?

The game will be played in the Khalifa International Stadium, seven miles outside Doha city centre. It is the oldest of the stadiums being used during the Qatar World Cup, having been built in 1976, but was revamped ahead of the 2022 tournament to increase spectator capacity to 45,857.

It is named after Qatar’s former Emir, Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani, and has been the home stadium for the national team since its construction.

What TV channel is it on?

Soccer fans in America can tune into the action on FOX TV.

In the UK, the match will be shown live on both ITV and the BBC. It will also be possible to stream it and catch-up on BBC iPlayer.

Head-to-head record

The two sides have met five times before but only for international friendlies. During these meetings, the Netherlands have dominated winning 2-0 in 1998, 2-0 in 2002, 1-0 in 2004, and 2-1 in 2010. The USA's only victory came in 2015 when they secured a 4-3 win.

What are the USA saying?

USA forward Christian Pulisic sustained a pelvic injury during the victory against Iran, crashing into Iranian goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand as he scored the 38th-minute winning goal.

The Chelsea striker was substituted at the start of the second half and taken to a hospital for tests where he was diagnosed with a pelvic contusion and returned to the team hotel.

A video posted later on social media by the US team showed Pulisic celebrating with the rest of the squad as they arrived at the team hotel and they also posted a video of him dribbling a ball on Wednesday.

President Joe Biden took note of the victory over Iran when speaking in Bay City, Michigan.

"They did it! God love 'em," Biden said.

A victory on Saturday against the Netherlands would put the USA in the quarterfinals for the first time since 2002.

"We may be the underdog," said Brenden Aaronson, who replaced the injured Christian Pulisic at the start of the second half. "The Dutch are a world power and they've been that for many, many tournaments. So I think for us, it's just going in there with no fear and playing the way we have been this entire tournament. And I think good things will come out of it."

The American lineup against Iran was the youngest of any team at this year's tournament and the youngest for the Americans since 1990, averaging 24 years, 321 days.

"It's a great opportunity but it's not something that we're going into it thinking it's an honor. We deserve to be in the position we're in and we want to keep going," US head coach Gregg Berhalter said.

"So for us, it's about how we recover from this game and prepare to play against a very good Dutch, very well coached, ton of quality all over the field, and we have to come up with an idea of how to beat them."

What are the Netherlands saying?

A typically belligerent Netherlands head coach Louis van Gaal took issue with criticism of his side's World Cup performances so far despite them topping Group A.

Even though they had very few alarms in their opening three matches, Van Gaal was grilled in his post-match press conference about why the games were not particularly enjoyable to watch.

"I'm not going to expand on it because I think you have a different opinion of football," he said to one journalist.

"Why don't you write you think it is terribly boring and you are going home tomorrow because you couldn't care less?"

When it was put to him fans were "grinding their teeth" on social media about the displays Van Gaal responded: "That's disappointing but I don't agree with you.

"That's your opinion but I don't think your opinion is the correct opinion. I think everyone would be rather proud we are progressing to the next round.

"I think things are not as bad as you say they are."
