It's time to call a convention of states

Recently, the federal deficit surpassed $30 trillion. That amounts to more than $90,000 per citizen. Based on that fact alone, many Americans agree our federal government is out of control.

Out of control spending and over regulation are dragging this country down. And one thing is obvious, most politicians have little interest in truly addressing the problem.

Something else that happened the same week, Wisconsin and Nebraska joined 15 other states in calling for a convention of states.

Article V of the U.S. Constitution provides a fail-safe for when the government gets out of control. It allows states to call a convention, where amendments may be proposed to get the federal government back under control. Those amendments would then be presented to the states for ratification.

Congress won't fix itself, so it is clearly time for states to step up and propose solutions. The convention of states will provide a national dialogue about term limits, fiscal responsibility and federal overreach.

It is time for Ohio to join the call for a convention of states.
