Remember the original design for the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog — the one that freaked out the internet with his too-realistic human teeth? Chip n' Dale: Rescue Rangers does.

The new film streaming on Disney+ stars John Mulaney and Andy Samberg as the titular chipmunks, who are trying to revive their flagging showbiz careers 30 years after their original Disney Afternoon show. A mix of live-action and animation, the new Rescue Rangers film portrays cartoon characters like actual actors, much like the '80s classic Who Framed Roger Rabbit — and to underline the point, Roger Rabbit himself even shows up in the film.

But the funniest cameo occurs early in the film when Dale (Samberg) sells autographs at a convention alongside other washed-up animation stars (Dale now appears in 3D computer-generated animation instead of classic cel-shading — it's played as a metaphor for plastic surgery). The booth across from him is run by Sonic the Hedgehog — but not the clean, cartoony CGI incarnation who recently starred in his second straight box-office smash.

Disney + Tim Robinson voices Ugly Sonic — human teeth and all — in 'Chip n' Dale: Rescue Rangers' on Disney+.

This is the original design from the very first trailer, and he even refers to himself as "Ugly Sonic." Instead of being voiced by Sonic the Hedgehog star Ben Schwartz, Ugly Sonic's voice is provided by I Think You Should Leave creator/star Tim Robinson — who brings his signature manic energy as he declares, "You can't hurt my feelings if I'm in on the joke!"

Dale, for his part, can't stop staring at those terrifying teeth.

Chip n' Dale: Rescue Rangers is currently streaming on Disney+, but if you want a taste of the Ugly Sonic scene, writer Gus Lanzetta helpfully clipped it on Twitter. Watch that above.
