Thursday's Top Prep Performers from basketball, soccer and water polo

Highlights from Thursday in high school sports:

GIRLS BASKETBALL

  • Kailee Staniland finished with 19 points and five assists, Jessie Sebek had 11 points and nine rebounds, Skyler Knight contributed 10 points and three rebounds, Emily Rea had 10 points and two rebounds, and Sarah Beckman added four points and seven rebounds as Ventura (16-8, 9-3) defeated rival Buena (13-9, 8-4) to take over sole possession of first place in the Channel League. The Cougars hold a half-game lead over Oxnard and Pacifica.

  • Mika Jarrett had 16 points, eight rebounds and six assists, Kristan Yumul and Sofia Salgado each scored 13 points, and Azalea Kubic contributed seven points to lead Oxnard (17-7, 8-3) to a 57-38 win over Dos Pueblos in a Channel League game.

  • Haven Ramirez dropped in 30 points and had 10 rebounds and six steals, Mikayla Oliver finished with 20 points and 15 rebounds, and Mimi Moon had 12 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and four steals to lead Pacifica (15-7, 8-3) to a 70-36 win over Rio Mesa in a Channel League game.

  • First-place Santa Paula defeated Carpinteria 50-42 in overtime to improve to 12-8 overall and 9-0 in the Citrus Coast League.

  • Channel Islands defeated Nordhoff 40-30 in a Citrus Coast League game.

  • Marissa Lugo scored eight points, Isabella Ramirez had six points and Nataly Vigil had five points for Fillmore in its 38-21 loss to Malibu in a Citrus Coast League game.

  • St. Bonaventure lost to Bishop Diego 43-36 in a Tri-Valley League game.

BOYS SOCCER

  • Matheus Gamble had a goal and an assist, Merric Bayless, Powell Saucedo and Mazen Alwarhani scored goals, and Sean Scampone, Nico Flores and Nathaniel Nevarez had assists as Foothill Tech defeated St. Bonaventure 4-0 to clinch the Tri-Valley League championship for the program's first league title.

  • Nathan Lopez scored his 19th goal of the season, breaking Buena's single-season mark of 18 set by Tyler Young, as Buena (11-11-3, 4-5-3) earned a 1-1 draw with Oxnard in a Channel League match. Abraham Servin scored a goal off an assist from Andres Martinez for the Yellowjackets (16-2-7, 9-1-2).

  • Angel Ortiz scored a goal, Michael Sauceda converted a penalty kick and Bryant Martinez had an assist to lead Pacifica (14-4-1, 9-3-0) to a 2-1 win over Dos Pueblos in a Channel League match.

  • David Marmolejo scored a goal of an assist from Jason Maldonado in the first half and Matthew Romero scored the game-trying goal in the 78th minute as Rio Mesa (2-15-5, 0-10-2) secured a 2-2 draw with Ventura in a Channel League match. Reid Patrick and Francisco Ramirez scored the goals for the Cougars (7-9-1, 2-9-1).

  • Jeremy Larson scored two goals and now has 17 goals and eight assists in 11 games and Cole Ikenouye had an assist to lead first-place Grace Brethren to a 2-0 win over Thacher in a Frontier League match.

GIRLS SOCCER

  • Tatiana Padilla netted a hat trick and had an assist, Abby Wood had a goal and an assist, Isabella Castillo scored a goal, and Kimberly Chavarria had an assist to lead Buena (12-4-0, 9-3-0) to a 5-2 win over Oxnard in a Channel League match. Rhianna Golson and Sienna Pimental scored goals and Cynthia Centeno had an assist for the Yellowjackets (8-9-1, 7-4-1).

  • Kaitlyn Wright finished two goals and an assist, Olivia Mobley had a goal and an assist, and Esja Moore had an assist to lead first-place Ventura (16-4-1, 9-2-1) to a 3-1 win over Rio Mesa in a Channel League match. Kenia Agraz scored a goal off an assist from Kamyla Navarro for the Spartans (8-9-4, 3-6-3).

  • Pacifica (8-4-2, 6-4-2) lost 1-0 to Dos Pueblos in a Channel League match.

  • Janessah Gonzalez scored two goals, Emily Ordaz had a goal, Nelly Pulido finished with two assists, Briza Prado had an assist, and Beyonce Hernandez earned the shutout in net to lead Santa Clara (10-1-2, 6-1-2) to a 3-0 victory over Grace Brethren in a Tri-Valley League match.

  • Taylor Liston, Tyler Hickerson and Lily Shadden scored goals to lead Foothill Tech to a 3-2 win over Bishop Diego in a Tri-Valley League match.

GIRLS WATER POLO

  • Hannah Tully-Giles scored six goals, Eva Tully-Giles had four goals and Ida Tully-Giles made 12 saves to earn the shutout as Villanova Prep defeated Cate 15-0 to improve to 5-0 in Tri-Valley League play.

  • Lindsey Ramirez finished with two goals, five steals and two assists for Santa Paula (13-11, 3-3) in its 8-5 loss to Nordhoff in a Citrus Coast League game.
