Thursday's HS sports highlights: New Phila girls basketball still unbeaten at 4-0

Ajia Schreffler scored 25 points with 10 rebounds and six steals, Callee Barker added 12 points on four 3-pointers and Alyssa Miller chipped in 11 points, five rebounds and four blocks as the New Philadelphia High School girls basketball team improved to 4-0 after a 61-30 victory at Ashland Thursday night.

The Quakers got off to a good start, leading 22-6 after the opening quarter, 36-15 at the half and 54-22 heading to the final quarter.

Makaree Chapman led Ashland with seven points, while Lillian Poll and Hannah Wade each added five.

In JV action, New Philadelphia defeated Ashland 41-33 as Ellie Mason had 14 points and Jazzee Barker added 13 points.

West Holmes 55, Wooster 43

Ella McMillen had 17 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals and Allie McMillen scored 16 points, grabbed four steals, and played stellar defense as host West Holmes recorded a hard-fought Ohio Cardinal Conference win over Wooster in The Dungeon.

Melanie Fair contributed 11 points and eight rebounds for the Knights, while Kinsey Patterson scored eight points and had five steals on the night.

West Holmes led 16-14 after one quarter, 27-22 at the half and 41-36 going to the fourth quarter.

Bowling

Central Catholic vs. Canton Central Catholic

Tuscarawas Central Catholic swept visiting Canton Central Catholic.

The girls defeated Canton Central Catholic by a score of 1,904-1,888 and were led by Emma Slates' 342 (142-200) and Alex Sica's 326 (138-188). The girls JV team were also winners led by Summer Hayes' 288 (153-135). Both squads are 2-1 on the year.

The boys team of Seth Oberholzer, Deren Wright, Salvatore Fadorsen, Charlie Montan and Marcus Clemence edged out Canton Central Catholic 2,065-2,000 for their first win of the young season.

The JV team of Nick Williams, Jadyn Levengood, Kelen Seigler, Warren Tienarend and Michael Shull all posted their highest scores of the season.

Sandy Valley vs. Massillon

Sandy Valley and Massillon split at Carroll Lanes.

Sandy Valley's girls scored a 1,699-1,213 win as Miah Delaney led the Cardinals with a 396 series (239-157) and Joey Boyer followed with a 374 (189-185).

Olivia Satterfield paced Massillon with a 258.

Massillon's boys were 2,043-1,587 winners behind Robert Morgan's 397.

Alonzo Peche led Sandy Valley with a 293 (146-147) and Jakob Crowe followed with a 263 (130-133).

Wrestling

Coshocton Triangular

Tusky Valley came out with a pair of victories as the Trojans competed with Garaway and host Coshocton.

TV defeated Coshocton 41-27 and topped Garaway 36-30.

Earning victories by pin for the Pirates against TV were Jonathan Domer and Clayton Downs.
