Thursday's high school highlights: Schreake leads No. 2 QND past No. 3 Illini West

Second-ranked (Illinois Class 2A) Quincy Notre Dame rallied from behind to edge No. 3 (2A) Illini West, 40-38, in a girls basketball game at Carthage, Illinois, Thursday night.

Illini West led 8-6 and 22-13 at the first two quarter stops. QND's Abbey Schreake then scored eight points in the third quarter to lead the Lady Raiders' 13-4 run that knotted the score at 26-all at the three-quarter mark.

Schreake stayed hot in the final eight minutes, scoring eight more points to lead the Lady Raiders to victory. Schreake finished with a game-high 23 points. QND's Lik Quintero added six.

Abbie Johnson and Rylee Reed scored 10 points each to lead Illini West. Reagan Reed scored seven, Caydee Kirkham had six points, Madi Cole had three and Hallie Ray added two points.

Quincy Notre Dame improved to 17-1. Illini West is 23-2.

PREP WRESTLING

BURLINGTON 37, WASHINGTON 24: Burlington's Braxton Hutchinson led the Grayhounds to a Southeast Conference win at Washington.

Hutchinson, wrestling at 106 pounds, needed just 24 seconds to pin Jace Sanders.

Burlington won seven other matches. Nolan Simpson (195 pounds) won an 11-2 major decision over Curtis Stender. Buxton Carlson (113) decisioned Nate Edmonds, 7-1. Micah Zaugg (145) decisioned Fredy Aguilar, 3-2, and Julian Perez-Hall (220) beat Colley Billingsly, 6-2.

Grayhounds Porter Humphrey (152), Caleb Zaugg (182) and Julius Harris (285) each won by forfeit.

FORT MADISON SWEEPS The Bloodhounds took advantage of four falls and eight Keokuk forfeits to roll to a Southeast Conference dual victory at Fort Madison, then scored a perfect 84-0 win over Illini West, which forfeited at 12 weight classes.

Keokuk defeated Illini West, 24-12.

Against Fort Madison, Keokuk forfeited the first seven matches, then Fort Madison's Gavin Wiseman pinned Kevun Joy in 53 seconds at 152 pounds. Teague Smith (160) pinned Hunter Haage in 36 seconds, Jakob McGowan (182) pinned Dakota Haage in 46 seconds and Isaac Thacher (195) pinned Aydan O'Connor in 31 seconds. Fort Madison's Brandt Booten (170) added an 11-7 decision over Kolbe Barnes.

Keokuk's lone match victory came at heavyweight. Jordan Salyers pinned Fort Madison's Cory Arnett in 4:44.

Fort Madison won both of the matches wrestled against Illini West. Wiseman pinned Lane Belshaw in 2:54 at 152 pounds and Smith (160) pinned Shawn Watkins in 1:59.

Against Illini West, Keokuk won four forfeits. Illini West's Belshaw (152) pinned Joy in 1:47 and Watkins (160) pinned Hunter Haage in 1:27.

FAIRFIELD 54, MOUNT PLEASANT 21: The Trojans coasted past Mount Pleasant in a Southeast Conference dual at Fairfield.

Mount Pleasant won three matches by forfeit and Panther heavyweight Frank Tousignant decisioned Cesar Smithburg, 4-3.

WACO SWEEPS: The Warriors swept two dual meets at New London. WACO beat Highland, 60-23, and New London, 39-34.

New London beat Highland, 41-12.

WACO had five double winners. Louden Huisenga won a fall and a forfeit at 145 pounds. Gage Samo (106) won a decision and a forfeit. Alja Eremic (160), Cainan Lovan (170) and Jonah Clark (220) each won two forfeits. Getting one victory each by pinning an opponent were Junior Quiroz (138), Braden Spain (152), Kris Boone (182) and Drew Diers (195).

New London also had five double winners. Gavin Bailey-Menke (120) and Josh Glendening (182) pinned two opponents each. Dominic Lopez (152) won by a fall and a technical fall. Trent Wilkerson (195) pinned one opponent and scored a major decision on another. Marcel Lopez (132) won by a fall and a forfeit.

New London's Gage Burden (113) and Corbin Jacobs-Jewell (138) both won one match by fall.

WILDCATS SWEEP: Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union defeated Van Buren County, 39-25, and Mediapolis, 42-33, at Columbus Junction.

Mediapolis and Van Buren County wrestled to a 36-36 deadlock.

Columbus/W-MU finished with four double winners. Heavyweight Russell Coil pinned both of his opponents. Ty Scorpil (113/120) won a fall and a forfeit. Gerardo Orozco (160/170) and Markel Zapiensz (195) each won twice by forfeit. Kai Malone pinned one opponent at 220 pounds.

Mediapolis had five double winners. Gavin Gerber (112/120), Quinten Aney (145) and Lucas Wagenbach (160) each won a fall and a forfeit. Wil Whitaker (106) won a decision and a forfeit and Grady Gunn (126/132) won two forfeits.

Van Buren County had three double winners. Brant Tedrow (220) won a fall and a decision. Tyler Stoltz (132) and Isaiah Meek (138) each won two forfeits. Lydelle Tutner pinned one opponent at 182 pounds.

WAPELLO 60, L-M 15: Wapello won a Southeast Iowa Superconference dual at Letts.

Wapello won 11 matches, seven by forfeit, two by falls and two decisions. Wapello's Zach Harbison (126) pinned Riley Norwood in 1:09 and Matthew Helscher (138) pinned Gavin Mills in 3:32. Dawson Tipps (113) and Dylan Woodruff (152) won their matches by decision.

Louisa-Muscatine's Kendal Pugh (160) pinned Garen Wilkerson in 40 seconds and the Falcons' Hunter Dickman (120) pinned Ethan Walker in 55 seconds. Spencer Kessel won by decision at 220 pounds.

BOYS SWIMMING

WILLIAMSBURG 89, BURLINGTON 71: Williamsburg won seven events and the team score at the Burlington High School pool.

Burlington won three individual events and a relay. The Grayhounds' Aiden Woodsmall won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:25.18. Nathan Parks won the 50-yard freestyle in 24.08. John Cottrell won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:06.05 and his BHS teammate Will Davidson took second in 1:15.50.

Woodsmall, Davidson, Cottrell and Parks won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:48.30.

In junior varsity competition, Burlington's David King won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:24.50.

PREP BOWLING

PANTHERS SWEEP FAIRFIELD: Mount Pleasant swept Fairfield in boys and girls competition at Iris Lanes in Mount Pleasant.

Mount Pleasant's boys came from behind to post a 2,564-2,502 victory. The Panthers trailed by four pins after the first Baker game.

Jonathan Fortin led Mount Pleasant with a 196-186—382 series. Also playing for Mount Pleasant were Nolan Myers (347), Alec Payne (346), Aiden Adams (322), Cole Wohlleber (294) and Justin Alldredge (233). The Mount Pleasant boys are now 4-3.

The Mount Pleasant girls had an easier time, winning 2,272-1,765.

Addie McGehearty led Mount Pleasant with a 181-170-351. Other Panthers were Bethany Drury (332), Tori Hixson (295), Eden Svoboda (290), Kylie Alldredge (271) and Abby Anderson (237). The Panther girls improved to 6-1.
