As it turns out, the Oklahoma City Thunder and Philadelphia 76ers will each have some additional free time on Sunday evening.

The contest featuring the two teams that was scheduled for Jan. 17 has been postponed, the league announced about 90 minutes prior to scheduled tip-off.

According to the release, the postponement was a result of contact tracking within the Sixers organization. As a result of the league’s health and safety protocols, Philadelphia would have been unable to dress eight players — the minimum required for an NBA contest.

As a result, the Thunder will enter play on Jan. 18 at 6-6 after Friday night’s dramatic come-from-behind overtime victory over the Chicago Bulls.

Sunday night’s contest was to be the final game before the Thunder begin a five-game road trip on Tuesday night at the Denver Nuggets. Instead, the club will have an extra day of rest before its showdown with Nikola Jokic and company.

The contest with the Sixers will be rescheduled and played at a date in the future that is yet to be determined.
