Three Mitchell-based bowlers capture titles at state women's tournament

May 14—YANKTON — Three Mitchell bowlers captured state championships at the South Dakota State USBC Women's Championship, a tournament that spanned four weekends, ending May 2.

Mitchell's Kassi Barington-Steele, Kylie Barington and Gretchen Munger all captured individual state championships at the tournament.

Kylie Barington won a pair of state championships, including the all-events handicap. Barington totaled a score of 2,418, topping MItchell's Kimberly Kluth's 2,301. Munger tied for fifth with a 2,124. She also took the 600 tournament, scoring an 859, besting Yankton's Sharon Mernin by 78. Kluth tied for third with a 758.

Barington and Veronica Ford finished second in the handicap doubles division with a 1,481, 66 shy of Rapid City's Gabby Buskohl and Brandy Foreman.

Barington-Steele won the handicap singles state championship in a field of 456 bowlers after scoring an 862 during the second weekend, which included a 300 game and a stretch of 19 consecutive strikes. Munger finished second with an 848 and Kylie Barington was third with an 833.

Munger won the scratch singles championship after rolling a 781. She edged out Barington-Steele (757), who finished second in the standings.
