Three injured when pickup truck hits tree in Olive Township

Apr. 10—Three people were injured when their vehicle went off the road and struck a tree late Friday afternoon in Olive Township.

Police responded to the one-vehicle crash on Port Sheldon Street just east of 128th Avenue shortly before 4 p.m.

The investigation showed that a 74-year-old Holland man was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck west on Port Sheldon. For an unknown reason, the vehicle went off the road and struck a tree.

The driver and both passengers were pinned inside the vehicle until being extricated by Olive Township Fire Rescue.

Police said that an ambulance transported the driver to Holland Hospital. The 74-year-old man was in stable condition.

His front-seat passenger, a 68-year-old Holland woman, and the backseat passenger, a 40-year-old Holland woman, also went by ambulance to Holland Hospital. The older woman was in critical condition and the younger woman was in serious condition.

Neither drugs nor alcohol were factors in the crash, police said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office.
