Three area teams compete at West Marshall Coed Invitational

May 4—STATE CENTER — All three area girls track and field programs had a plethora of season-best performances during the West Marshall Coed Invitational on Thursday.

Lynnville-Sully won two events and were top three in six total to lead the area squads with a third-place finish.

The Hawks scored 83 points, while Colfax-Mingo (48) was seventh and Baxter (45) came in ninth.

Vinton-Shellsburg won the team title with 129 points and South Hamilton (117) also finished ahead of L-S. The rest of the 12-team field included West Marshall (80), Collins-Maxwell (66), BCLUW (58), Pleasantville (46), South Tama County (32), Meskwaki Settlement School (16) and Colo-NESCO (11).

Lynnville-Sully, Colfax-Mingo and Baxter all won at least one event.

The Hawks got a pair of wins from Greenlee Smock. She won the 800- and 3,000-meter runs with a season-best time of 2 minutes, 37.39 seconds in the 800 and with a time of 11:49.83 in the 3K.

Colfax-Mingo's win came from Kyra Lester as she won the discus with a toss of 110 feet, 7 inches.

Baxter's Elie Tuhn won the 1,500. She finished the race in a season-best time of 5:18.89, which also is a new school record and is the 10th best time in Class 1A.

The Hawks' lone second-place finish came from Smock in the 1,500. She finished in a season-best time of 5:29.92, which is the 18th best time in 1A.

The Bolts earned a pair of silver medals.

The 4x800 relay team of Kailee Conradi, Regan Russell, Morgan Ratliff and Tuhn finished second in a season-best time of 10:58.38, which is the 18th best time in 1A.

The distance medley relay also was second in 4:50.47. That foursome included Maddie Pierce, Bree Buswell, Mandee Selover and Conradi.

L-S finished third in two relays and Meleisha Vos was third in the 400 hurdles in 1:19.67.

The 4x100 relay team of Carsyn McFarland, Korinne Jansen, Regan McFarland and Dylann Huyser was third in a season-best 53.09, which ranks 11th in 1A.

The Hawks' 4x200 relay team of Carsyn McFarland, Sydney Jansen, Korinne Jansen and Huyser was third in 1:56.45.

The Bolts' lone bronze medal came in the shuttle hurdle relay. The team of Pierce, Sophie Meyer, Carlee Zahurones and Buswell finished in 1:19.17.

L-S scored double points in the 100 as Regan McFarland and Aliya James were 4-5 in season-best times of 13.3 and 13.38 seconds, respectively.

Carsyn McFarland finished fourth in the 200 with a season-best time of 27.99 seconds.

Megan Van Zante was fourth in the 1,500 in a season-best time of 5:50.61. Callista Hackert took fifth in the 800 in 2:45.08 and Vos finished sixth in the 100 hurdles in a season-best time of 18.38.

Van Zante, Vos and Alberts also were part of the 4x800 relay team which finished fourth. The team of Vos, Cally Gibbs, Van Zante and Caitlin Alberts finished in 11:41.51.

Baxter had two other top-six finishes. Selover was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 14 feet, 7 1/2 inches and Russell finished sixth in the 800 with a personal-best time of 2:45.51.

The Tigerhawks edged Baxter in the team standings because they tallied six fourth- and fifth-place finishes.

Carley Underwood was fourth in the 100 hurdles and her personal-best time of 16.92 is the 18th best time in 2A.

Lester also was fourth in the shot put with a season-best throw of 32-9 1/2. Joslyn Dawson (14:18.72) also had a season-best time in the 3,000 and finished fifth and McKayla Smith (91-5) took fifth in the shot put.

The Tigerhawks were fourth in the 4x200 and shuttle hurdle relays.

The 4x200 relay of Madison Riddle, Mickayla Lind, Caylee Cunningham and McKenna Pleima finished in a season-best time of 1:58.37.

The shuttle hurdle relay team of Abi Rawlins, Underwood, Morgan Van Dyke and Kylie Doty crossed the finish line in 1:22.97.

BOYS

Lynnville-Sully's boys track and field team won three events at the West Marshall Coed Invitational on Thursday and two of them came in hurdle events.

And the Hawks currently rank in the top 15 in 1A in both of those events.

L-S tallied eight top-three finishes in all and the Hawks were third in the 11-team field with 92 points. Vinton-Shellsburg (116) won the team title and West Marshall (103.5) finished second.

The rest of the field included BCLUW (86), East Marshall (77), Colo-NESCO (57.5), Iowa Valley (49), Colfax-Mingo (48), Baxter (46.5), Meskwaki Settlement School (41.5) and BGM (24).

L-S was the only area school to find the win column. The Hawks won the shuttle hurdle and sprint medley relays and Carter Dunsbergen was victorious in the 110 high hurdles.

Dunsbergen finished the race in a season-best 15.99, which ranks 11th in 1A.

He also anchored the shuttle hurdle relay. The rest of the team included Blake Rea, James Gruver and Mason Jansen and they finished in a season-best time of 1:06.32, which ranks 13th in 1A.

The sprint medley relay team featured Corder Noun Harder, Caleb Rea, Josh Hardenbrook and Gruver and they finished in 1:41.31.

The Hawks also were second in three events. Hardenbrook was second in the 200 in a season-best 23.42 and Ryan Annee took second in the long jump with a season-best leap of 19-1.

The 4x200 relay was second. The team of Noun Harder, Caleb Rea, Hardenbrook and Annee finished in a season-best 1:36.76.

Justin Myers grabbed Colfax-Mingo's lone individual runner-up finish as he was second in the 400 hurdles in 58.94.

The Tigerhawks' 4x400 relay team of Carter Gibson, A.J. Gibson, Colton Hernandez and Myers took second in a season-best 3:43.14.

Baxter's lone second-place finish came from Rory Heer in the 800 as he finished in 2:10.42.

Noun Harder was third in the 100 with a season-best time of 11.44 and Conner Maston took third in the 400 with a season-best 53.48.

Baxter was third in two events. Treyton Travis took third in the high jump with a leap of 5-6 and the distance medley relay team of Cody Samson, Cody Damman, Travis and Heer were third in a season-best 4:04.25.

The Bolts also got a fourth-place finish from McMinamen (110-2) in the discus, a fifth from McMinamen (39-5) in the shot put and a sixth-place tally from Heer (18-1 1/2) in the long jump.

The Hawks were fourth in three events — Maston (5-4) in the high jump, Zach Morningstar (11:40.15) in the 3,200 and the 4x400 relay team of Caleb Rea, Blake Rea, Bryce Richards and Maston. The finished in 3:49.46.

Morningstar also was fifth in the mile with a season-best time of 5:15.39. Blake Rea (17.36) finished sixth in the 110 high hurdles.

Colfax-Mingo was fourth in four events. Myers had the individual fourth in the 110 high hurdles in a season-best time of 17.05. The 4x800, distance medley and shuttle hurdle relays all were fourth.

The 4x800 team of Noah Strohmeyer, Jared Lewis, Cael Bracewell and Zach Steenhoek finished in 9:38.75.

The shuttle hurdle relay featured Josh Kite, Hernandez, Conner Wood and Myers and they finished in 1:09.99.

The distance medley relay team of Trey Hockemeier, Kite, Carter Gibson and Strohmeyer finished in a season-best time of 4:11.2.
