Three Eastern U.P. football players earned All-State recognition recently from the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association.

In Eight-Player Division I, Pickford senior running back Josh Sullivan and senior lineman George Edington, and Rudyard senior defensive back Tate Besteman received First Team All-State by the MHSFCA.

Sullivan (6-0, 168) was the Great Lakes Eight East Division Offensive Player of the year, rushing for 1,404 yards and 18 touchdowns. He averaged 9.2 yards per carry and went over 2oo yards rushing in each of his final three games.

Edington (6-6, 240) was the leading blocker for the Panthers, helping the team rush for 2,299 yards.

Besteman, a 6-8 defensive back, led the Bulldogs in tackles and had 78 stops through 11 games. He played every position on the field except quarterback, using his speed and length to disrupt opponents.

Pickford, Rudyard and Newberry were all playoff teams in Eight-Player Division 1. Rudyard advanced to the state semifinals, finishing 9-3.

Schools/coaches must be members of the MHSFCA in order for their players to be named to the MHSFCA All-State teams.
