Three-alarm house fire in Brockton leaves two firefighters injured, 11 residents displaced

BROCKTON — Nearly a dozen people are displaced by a three-alarm house fire in Brockton that left two firefighters injured, according to officials in the city.

Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Marchetti said the Brockton Fire Department received calls about the fire at 148 Florence St., a multi-family home, shortly before 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

Shortly after 9:50 a.m., the department tweeted that the fire was operating at a second alarm and then tweeted shortly before 10:15 a.m. that the blaze was at a third alarm.

Marchetti said two Brockton firefighters suffered minor injuries and that one of those firefighters was transported to an area hospital. At this time, it is not clear exactly what kinds of injuries those firefighters suffered. The condition of the firefighter that was taken to the hospital for further treatment is not known at this time.

According to Marchetti, all 11 people who reside at 148 Florence St. have been displaced by the fire. No injuries among those residents have been reported.

The Brockton Emergency Management Agency said it has members of its command staff at the scene to support Brockton firefighters. The agency is asking people to avoid the area at this time.

Marchetti said the fire appears to have started in the rear of the building on the third floor. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
