Threat led to Friday afternoon police presence at Jefferson Middle School
Sangamon County sheriff's deputies were sent to Jefferson Middle School Friday after a possible threat to the school was reported.
The Springfield Public Schools District 186 said in a statement that district staff was notified by a community member at 2 p.m. of the threat, which circulated among "anonymous sources." Sheriff's deputies and district security staff members were immediately sent to the school to evaluate the situation.

Students were dismissed from school without incident. Sheriff's deputies remained in the area.
Schools in the area were already on alert following the death of 19 children in a mass shooting Tuesday at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. That, along with an incident at Lee School in which a student had a firearm in his backpack Tuesday, led to the district and the Springfield Police Department enlisting extra patrols at city schools.
