358,000+ without power in NC as Post-Tropical Cyclone Ian moves inland

Over 358,000 power outages were reported Friday night across North Carolina as Ian, now a post-tropical cyclone, continued to bring wind and rain to the state.

North Carolina Emergency Management said power outages across the state totaled more than 358,741 as of 9:50 p.m.

The state has more than 10,000 utility workers “poised to respond to power outages when it’s safe to do so,” a Friday press release from Gov. Roy Cooper said.

As the storm continues to move through the Carolinas, we’re tracking outages from power companies in the Triangle and beyond from Duke Energy and other utilities.

Duke Energy power outages due to Tropical Storm Ian

Updated 8 p.m.: Duke Energy reported 6,195 active outages, impacting 264,475 customers throughout North Carolina and South Carolina. North Carolina customers impacted totaled 241,717.

Specific county-level impacts in the Triangle included:

  • Wake County: 64,604 customers without power

  • Durham County: 14,435 customers without power

  • Orange County: 6,781 customers without power

  • Johnston County: 9,567 customers without power

  • Chatham County: 11,522 customers without power

Wake Electric power outages due to Tropical Storm Ian

Updated 8 p.m.: Wake Electric Membership Corporation showed outages across five counties.

  • Outages in Wake County are impacting 1,825 customers.

  • Outages in Durham County are impacting 143 customers.

  • Outages in Johnston County are impacting five customers.

  • Outages in Granville County are impacting 174 customers.

  • Outages in Franklin County are impacting 110 customers.

Updated 8 p.m.: Piedmont Electric Membership Corporation is reporting outages across five counties.

  • Outages in Orange County are affecting about 4,400 customers.

  • Outages in Durham County are affecting 316 customers.

  • Outages in Alamance County are affecting 29 customers.

  • Outages in Person County are affecting 93 customers.

  • Outages in Granville County are affecting 29 customers.

Updated 8 p.m.: South River Electric Membership Corporation showed outages across four counties.

  • Outages in Johnston County are affecting about 1,000 customers.

  • Outages in Sampson County are impacting 344 customers.

  • Outages in Cumberland County are impacting 771 customers.
