Thousands swarm Spicer for annual Fourth of July parade

Jul. 4—SPICER — It was one big party in downtown Spicer Monday morning, as the masses inundated the small lake community to celebrate America's independence this Fourth of July holiday during the town's annual Grand Day Parade.

For more than an hour, float after float cruised along Lake Avenue through the heart of Spicer's downtown area before heading to a more residential section of the community to the north.

Folks came from all over Kandiyohi County and beyond in their finest American flag-themed clothing and red, white and blue attire to celebrate under cloudy cool skies initially, which gave way to warmer temperatures and more suitable July sunshine as the lengthy parade wore on.

Children had numerous opportunities to stockpile miniature candy fortunes in their bags while waving to passing floats. As the parade came to a close, folks packed up, headed back out onto Green Lake for a relaxing day, or ventured home for afternoon Fourth of July barbecues.
