Thousands gathered on the lawn of the Ohio Statehouse Sunday to make their voices heard.

Sunday’s protests were hosted by the Ohio Democratic Party and joined by Democratic politicians, according to our news partners at WBNS.

The ODR called the event a “We Won’t Go Back” rally.

Sen. Sherrod Brown, Senate candidate Tim Ryan and Ohio Governor candidate Nan Whaley were in attendance.

Brown said the Supreme Court’s ruling doesn’t align with how the majority of the country feels about abortion.

“That is so out of step with what the country wants, out of step with what Ohio wants. Ohio is a state that believes in women’s health and believes in women having choices,” Brown told WBNS.

Two local women made the trip to Columbus to keep fighting for what they believed in.

“We’re going to keep fighting for what we know is best for the women and best for the country,” Jan Underwood of Dayton said.

Jan and her friend Virginia Platt said they knew they had to do something.

“I went because I’m upset. I think this decision is going to result in the deaths of many women,” Platt said.

One of the things Platt and Underwood said they are concerned about is Ohio’s “Heartbeat Law”, which makes abortion illegal after 6 weeks of pregnancy in Ohio.

“Every child deserves to be wanted, every child deserves to be born into a home where it can be provided for. When they inflict, change the date to 6 weeks nobody has a chance to consider that in any way shape or form,” Underwood said.

Pro-life State Representative Jena Powell said Friday that she wants to take the law a step further.

On Friday she shared her thoughts during a Dayton Right to Life news conference.

“As the head of the Pro-Life Caucus here in the State of Ohio we are doing everything we can to move forward on a piece of legislation that ends abortion in the state of Ohio from the time of conception and protects every unborn child in our state,” Powell said.

Sunday’s protest was the third day of protests at the Statehouse.
