Thirteen Arrested as Fire Breaks Out During Pension-Reform Protests in Rennes

Bins and barricades were set on fire in Rennes, France, police said, as protesters took to the streets during the third day of national strikes against the French government’s proposed pension reforms on Tuesday, February 7.

According to the national police, 14,600 people took part in the protests, and 13 were arrested for “violence and degradation” in Rennes, as bins, containers, and barricades were set on fire. Police also reported broken windows and said protesters threw fireworks at them.

The national police said forces were mobilized across France to supervise the demonstrations, and SNCF, France’s national railway company, reported that train services would be disrupted due to the protests.
