Tom Brady isn’t straying far from Bill Belichick’s example, shutting down reporters’ questions about newly acquired wide receiver Antonio Brown after New England Patriots practice Wednesday.
Brown was accused of three separate incidents of sexual assault and rape by his former trainer, who filed a lawsuit in a federal court in Florida. The Patriots released a statement shortly after the allegations became public Tuesday, saying the NFL was investigating the situation, and that the team would have no further comment until that investigation was completed.
Asked if he had any comment on the allegations, Brady simply replied “No,” according to MassLive. The reporter followed up: “Not a word?” to which Brady answered, “Didn’t I just say that?”
Brady also was asked if his offer to let Brown stay in his guest house while he gets settled in New England still stands. He was not having it.
“I’m not getting into all that,” Brady said.
Asked once more about Brown, and how he will deal with the distraction of the legal process, Brady made clear that he feels the situation is none of his business.
“I’m just trying to show up and play football and try to prepare," Brady said. "Miami’s a good team. We’re going to get ready for them, and things that don’t involve me, don’t involve me.”
Bill Belichick cuts off questions about Antonio Brown
Speaking with the media Tuesday night, Patriots head coach Belichick entertained few questions about Brown. He confirmed that Brown would practice this week, but as to his status for Sunday, Belichick said the team was taking it “one day at a time.”
“On Antonio's situation, both Antonio and his representatives have made statements, so I'm not going to be expanding on any of those,” Belichick told reporters. “They are what they are. We've looked into the situation, we're taking it very seriously all the way through the organization. I'm sure there are questions but I'm not going to enter into any discussion about that today. That's where we're at."
Like Brady on Wednesday, Belichick turned the conversation to Sunday’s matchup.
“We're working on Miami,” Belichick said. “The rest of it ... we're on Miami. I mean, I'm done with [questions about Brown], OK? Anything else, on Miami? Any other questions?"
