This Sports Bar Is Going Viral For How It Only Shows Women's Athletics, And Every Day, The Line To Get In Is Out The Door

There's a new sports bar that only plays women's sports on TV, and it's the first and only one in the world to do so.

It's called The Sports Bra, and people are very excited about it. It opened in early April, and it's located in Portland, Oregon. Many people have expressed their enthusiasm about it, including user @audreydevaughn on TikTok, who also points out why the bar is so important:

"Even though 40% of athletes are women, only 4% of sports that are televised are women, so the owner of this bar is trying to change that," she said in the clip. "I'm really looking forward to checking it out this summer."

People in the comments were also eager for the bar's opening.

Non-sports fans even showed their support.

Someone else even revealed that the bar has been PACKED every night since it opened last month.

And another person was happy because now they could finally watch women's basketball in peace.

The owner of The Sports Bra, Jenny Nguyen, had a similar experience to the commenter above, and that's actually how the idea for the bar came to be — one night while she was out at a sports bar, she realized that all the TVs were broadcasting men's sports.

"Some friends and I went to a sports bar to watch the women's NCAA Finals basketball championship," Jenny told BuzzFeed. "We roll into the sports bar that has like 30-plus TVs, and not a single one had the game on."

"For as long as I can remember, my friends and I would go to bars and would want to watch the games, and it was always a chore to like, flag somebody down, get them to change the channel," she continued. "We realized the only way we're ever going to be able to really watch a women's game is if we had our own place."

And so, the inspiration for The Sports Bra was born. Jenny hopes her bar will be a safe and inclusive space for everyone to enjoy women's sports.

And although The Sports Bra only shows women's sports, Jenny would like to emphasize that men are allowed in the bar.

"I get comments all the time, like, 'Are men allowed?' And it's just like, yes, we're a safe and inclusive environment for everybody. Everybody but haters, basically," she said. "I think women in particular seek out this space because it is safe and inclusive, and they feel a sense of representation and belonging."

And the girl power doesn't stop at the TVs —The Sports Bra's menu is full of food and alcohol made by small, woman-owned businesses, including liquor from Freeland Spirits, beef from Carman Ranch, and produce from Vibrant Valley Farm.

And if for some reason you're still not impressed, you should know that the business supports a bunch of nonprofits that empowers girls, including Girls on the Run Oregon, a physical activity-based youth development program, and Girls Build, Inc., an organization that teaches girls the basics of carpentry, plumbing, and more.
