The top 10 UK cities for a pay rise this summer
If you’re looking to secure a new job this summer, now is definitely the right time.
Data from job board CV-Library shows average pay for new roles jumped up by an impressive 4.6% in the second quarter of 2019.
What’s more, the findings, which compared job market data from the second quarter of 2019 with the same period last year, found certain locations experienced above-average pay growth.

Portsmouth is the top UK city for securing a pay rise this summer, with pay up 9.5%, the figures show.
But Edinburgh isn’t far behind, with pay up 9%, while Newcastle (8.5%), London (8.3%), and Leeds (7.9%) also made the top five.
In Nottingham, salaries for new roles are up 7.5% compared with last year.

In Hull, they are up 7.3%, in Liverpool 6.3%, and Southampton 5.8%.
Leicester just barely made the top 10, with pay up 5.7% since July 2018.
But it would seem the competition for these roles is heating up, as application rates have jumped 10.8% since last year.

Cities including Leicester (34%), Bristol (23%), Brighton (18%), London (16%) and Aberdeen (15%) saw the biggest increases.
Alongside this, the amount of jobs on offer grew by just 0.6% across the UK.
But Scotland saw a huge 26% jump in vacancies, with cities Aberdeen (55%), Glasgow (19%) and Edinburgh (10%) experiencing the highest growth.
