The Masked Singer fans are convinced that Octopus is a classical singer – with Charlotte Church and Katherine Jenkins the frontrunners - after she delivered a stunning operatic version of a West Side Story hit.

The eight-tentacled creature blew away judges Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross, Ken Jeong and Rita Ora with her rendition of Somewhere (There’s A Place For Us), which showed off an impressive range.

Jeong even declared it “the best performance of the series”.

The judges – who are tasked with guessing the identity of the celebrities singing in disguise - were divided over who Octopus was, but Jeong did suggest Church and Ora thought Jenkins was a possibility.

And many viewers believed either Church or Jenkins will turn out to be the spangly sea creature.

“OK, Octopus is Charlotte Church absolutely, most definitely,” wrote one person on Twitter.

“Octopus us either Katherine Jenkins or Charlotte Church. We’re erring on the side of Katherine,” said another.

One person posted: “OK, I’ve been holding out for it to be @charlottechurch for weeks, but tonight she sounded more like Katherine Jenkins than ever.”

“Octopus is Katherine Jenkins. I’ve been saying it for weeks, COME OOOOON!” said another.

So far, seven celebrities have been unmasked on the ITV show.

EastEnders actress Patsy Palmer, former Home Secretary Alan Johnson, The Darkness rocker Justin Hawkins and former England footballer Teddy Sheringham were the secret celebrities hiding inside Butterfly, Pharaoh, Chameleon and Tree.
