Thayer Coggin: No plans for cleared site

Jun. 20—DAVIDSON COUNTY — A local furniture company says it has no development plans for one of its properties that was recently cleared.

Thayer Coggin enlisted a timber management company that harvested trees from about 19 acres on National Highway between High Point and Thomasville.

Mike Wiggin, a representative of the family that owns the longtime residential furniture manufacturer, which is based in High Point, said it has no current plans for the property or a much larger nearby site that remains undeveloped.

Wiggin said the timber company that harvested the trees will determine how to utilize the lumber.

He added that the property, which is on the west side of National Highway, next to Gary Essick Import Specialist used car dealership, has been and continues to be for sale.

Across National Highway from the cleared site, Thayer Coggin owns 103.9 acres near its headquarters on South Road.

That site is being marketed by the Davidson County Economic Development Commission and is listed for sale for $2.6 million.

"It's a site that has a lot of potential for industrial development, but also several challenges that may limit development," said Craig Goodson, president and CEO of DCEDC.
