Thanks and thumps (on the head)

Thanks to Ada Wills, whose action led to efforts to save a 300-year-old Douglas fir. We should be saving as many trees as possible, but it seems we’re losing many to various construction sites.

Thanks to Carol Haskins and Bunny Stevens for their thoughtful letters about Roe vs. Wade published in the Kitsap Sun recently. Where are the companion laws for the sperm donors that mandate their financial support, taking care of the children 50% of the time, etc.? These are not “pro-life” laws, they are “anti-woman” laws.

Thanks to Mary Carpenter for her letter this month regarding prayer. Well said!

Thump to Jeff Campbell’s letter regarding city council pay. Many serving (and service is key here – this is not a “job”) are working full time jobs — this is not meant to be that. However, let’s not overlook retired people who are receiving social security. They are limited on how much they can earn without jeopardizing their social security earnings. City council pay should never jeopardize that. Further, rarely do council members communicate directly with their constituents, so they should certainly not be paid more for failing to adequately represent those they serve.

Thanks to Clarke Whitney, CPA on Warren Avenue in downtown Bremerton, for maintaining a beautifully landscaped facade all these years. Inspirational.

Thump to the city for failure to be proactive on code enforcement. Drive Warren between Burwell and the bridge, Cherry between Wheaton Way and Sheridan, or along lower Wheaton Way for starters. Numerous unkempt properties.

Diane Manning, Bremerton
