Brandin Cooks has seen his share of quarterbacks.

When he was with the New Orleans Saints from 2014-16, he did see Drew Brees, but he also saw Luke McCown for one game in the 2015 season. In 2017, his lone season with the New England Patriots, Cooks played with Tom Brady.

From 2018-19, Cooks saw Jared Goff with the Los Angeles Rams. Last year, Cooks played with Deshaun Watson in his first season with the Houston Texans.

According to Cooks, third-round rookie Davis Mills was sufficient in his relief appearance against the Cleveland Browns in Week 2.

“In my opinion, I think he did a great job,” said Cooks. “Obviously, when you get you put in a situation like that, one of the things you want to show is toughness.”

What impressed Cooks was the way Mills was able to respond to the adversity. After a three-and-out on the opening drive of the second half, followed up with an interception, Mills bounced back, finishing with 102 yards as he completed eight of his 18 attempts.

Throw in the 2-yard touchdown on a slant to Cooks, too.

Said Cooks: “You know, he took a couple to the face and bounced right back up and when you see that from a rookie, you got a lot of respect for him. Obviously, we got some things to clean up all of us but from that standpoint he definitely showed that he can handle hits in the pocket like that.”

Cooks also confirms what Mills said after the 31-21 loss that the offense did change any with starter Tyrod Taylor being lost to a hamstring injury.

“Like he said, we didn’t have to change up a lot of things because his command on the offense. He has that, he knows what’s going on.”

Cooks also believes the offense won’t see any subsequent changes going forward due to how comfortable offensive coordinator Tim Kelly is with Mills.
