Texans coach David Culley says Colts took away Davis Mills’ downfield options

Houston Texans quarterback Davis Mills didn’t have as stellar of a day against the Indianapolis Colts as he did in Week 5.

In the 31-3 beatdown at the hands of the Texans’ AFC South rivals, Mills went 29-of-43 for 243 yards with a 62.5 passer rating. The third-round rookie from Stanford had just one completion of 20 yards or more against the Colts.

According to coach David Culley, the Texans were trying to drive the ball down the field, but the Colts defense did a good job of taking away the downfield options for Mills.

“I mean, obviously, when you lose three starters that hurts because they’re starters for a reason, but for the most part, the guys that went in there did a good job,” Culley said. “Basically, we just didn’t have the plays today that we’ve normally had during the game. It had nothing to do we us not trying. We attempted to throw some balls down the field when they would give them, basically, it’s just how it happened during the game.”

The starters Culley was referring to were quarterback Tyrod Taylor, left tackle Laremy Tunsil, and right tackle Marcus Cannon, who are all three on injured reserver.

The Colts extended their winning streak over the Texans to three games going back to last season. Houston falls to 1-5 on the year, and is in third place in the division thanks to their win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
