Tennessee prep football roundup: Silverdale Baptist 8-1 after impressive region win

Oct. 23—Silverdale Baptist Academy raced to a 28-point lead in the first quarter and rolled to a 49-6 TSSAA Division II-AA East Region win over Knoxville Grace on Friday night.

The Seahawks averaged 9 yards per play in accumulating 402 total yards, outrushing the Rams 308-69 to improve to 8-1 overall and 4-1 in the league. Connor Delashmitt led the ground game with 129 yards and three scores, including a 40-yard sprint, while Channing Manning led the defense with eight tackles.

Turner Junkins had a 71-yard scoring run and also caught a touchdown pass from Brett Rogers, who finished with 94 passing yards and ran for 57. Rogers also had a fumble return for a score.

Silverdale Baptist closes its regular season next week at Christian Academy of Knoxville, which also stands 4-1 in the region.

Marion County 42, Signal Mountain 0: Class 2A's fourth-ranked Warriors were not caught looking ahead to next week's region championship showdown with top-ranked Meigs County.

Marion outrushed the Eagles 272-34, led by Riley Rogers who finished with 131 yards on 10 carries and two scores, including a 73-yarder. Alex Condra added 84 yards on 12 carries and also scored twice, and the Warriors allowed just 119 total yards and forced three turnovers. Freshman Kash Keene threw for 85 yards to lead the Eagles.

Soddy-Daisy 36, Hixson 28: Quarterback Slater Hickman totaled 302 yards to lead the Trojans to the Region 3-4A win. Hickman completed 14 of 19 passes for 161 and two touchdowns and ran for 141 on just seven carries and scored twice on the ground. Koko Hendricks rushed for 225 yards to lead Hixson.

Whitwell 38, Copper Basin 20: The Tigers secured the second spot in Region 3-1A and the right to host a first-round playoff game as Chandler Britton ran for 141 yards and two touchdowns and also led the defense with seven solo tackles. Bennett McDougal had an 85-yard kickoff return for a score ,and the Tigers rolled up 371 yards of total offense.

McMinn County 31, Loudon 21: Quarterback Jayden Miller ran for 203 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 11.9 per carry, and Davion Evans added 67 more on the ground to lead the Cherokees. Miller also threw for 42 yards and a score as McMinn outscored Loudon 25-14 in the second half and ran for 310 yards.

Bledsoe County 28, Monterey 21: Chance Boynton batted away a fourth-down pass in the end zone with 30 seconds remaining to seal the win. Cadillac Siever ran for 104 yards and a touchdown and Gunner Sweatt added 84 rushing yards and a score and also had 77 receiving yards and two more touchdowns.

Sale Creek 57, Cosby 6: After taking a 21-0 lead into halftime, the Panthers put the game away with a 22-point third quarter outburst for the nonregion win. Sale Creek outgained Cosby 429-72 in total yards as Cam Penny threw for 210 yards and two scores and Drew Hillian ran for 154 and four scores. Nick Hall had seven catches for 130 yards and a touchdown and led the defense with 4.5 tackles (two for loss).
