Vancouver-based national carrier Telus zooms past Rogers and Bell for fastest internet speeds in Canada, according to the annual PC Mag Fastest ISP report.

The report, released Wednesday, indicated that Telus is the winner, likely because of their “rollout of fibre optics that began 20 years ago,” which has “paid off handsomely for the company and Telus customers alike.”

The magazine used a weighted combination of average download and upload speeds to determine who came out on top.

Telus customers saw average speeds of 153.8Mbps, while Roger came in second at 147.1Mbps. Bell placed third, with an average speed of 141.1Mbps.

“Every one of the major ISPs in Canada saw a nice speed increase from 2019,” the report said, noting that Telus saw the biggest boost.

According to the report, Newfoundland and Labrador and New Brunswick were the provinces with the fastest speeds. They are serviced by Eastlink, Bell, Bell Aliant, and Rogers.

“We’ve said it before and it’s worth repeating: this level of competition in a small region is good for customers,” the report said.

The report used results from 33,782 tests taken between June 1, 2019 and June 2, 2020.
