Teen arrested in Fayetteville homicide on Treetop Drive in May

An arrest was made this week in a fatal shooting in May on Treetop Drive, according to the Fayetteville Police Department.

Khailil Tyheed Johnson Tamir, 19, of the 7000 block of Ryan Street, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Lee Otis Evans Jr., 18, police said. Evans Jr. was shot to death about 10:35 p.m. May 7 outside an apartment complex in the 100 block of Treetop Drive off north Ramsey Street, according to a news release. He was shot in the arm, torso and twice in the chest with a .40-caliber handgun, according to the autopsy report.

Tamir, who was in custody since August on unrelated burglary charges, was additionally booked on the murder warrant Monday. He is listed in court and jail records as Khailil Tyheed Johnson.

Evans Jr. was one of six people killed in Fayetteville in May, including a woman who was also fatally shot on May 7. Arrests have not been announced in two of those homicides.
