TECUMSEH — Tecumseh High School Principal Dennis Niles has been placed on paid, nondisciplinary leave, following an allegation made against him, a news release issued Friday evening by the school district said.

The nature of the allegation was not specified. The release said Superintendent Rick Hilderley was made aware of the allegation against Niles on Friday. Hilderley "took swift action," the release said, and put Niles on nondisciplinary leave according to school district policy.

The matter was turned over to the Tecumseh Police Department for review, which also was done following policy, the release said. Police conducted an "investigation and determined there was no criminal activity and therefore are not handling the investigation at this point."

Hilderley will be acting high school principal for the duration of this investigation, the release said. Niles will remain on paid, nondisciplinary leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

"At this time, TPS will have no further comment as the investigation is ongoing," the release said.

Niles has been high school principal since November 2020. He was the school's assistant principal from 2002 to 2012, and returned to Tecumseh after working as an administrator in Mio AuSable Schools from 2018 to 2020.
